Driving the Present, Shifting the Future.

For nearly 60 years, Central Community College’s Hastings Campus has trained a skilled workforce in Automotive and Auto Body careers. The current automotive facility, originally built in 1943 as a transportation shop for the Naval Ammunition Depot, was converted for college use in 1966 and has been periodically updated. However, the 80-year-old building now presents limitations that restrict modern, high-tech training methods essential to today’s industry.

To meet these evolving needs, CCC is prioritizing the construction of a new 42,000-square-foot Automotive and Auto Body facility. As the largest project in the college’s five-year master facilities plan, this state-of-the-art building will enable students to train on industry-standard equipment in an environment that mirrors today’s automotive workplaces.

The total project cost is estimated at $23 million. Federal ARPA funds and nearly $15 million in college contributions have been allocated, leaving a gap of $3 million for construction and an additional $500,000 for scholarships and program support. The CCC Foundation board has launched a $3.5 million campaign to close this gap, ensuring a top-quality, modern educational environment that attracts students and prepares them for in-demand careers. The time is now to build a facility that meets current standards and strengthens CCC’s role in workforce development.

Dr. Matt Gotschall, Central Community College President

We recognize how important it is to invest in the economic engines of our communities. A shortage of well-trained automotive and auto body technicians will have a ripple effect on the entire economy. It is our goal to drive the present and shift the future with a new facility to meet the training needs of our region today and into the future. So we once again turn to our community partners to help Central Community College achieve our mission of maximizing student and community success.
